The John J. Ford, Jr. Collection
Part XX & XXI

Looking back over the past four years, from the time of the first sale in this monumental series, Part I of the John J. Ford, Jr. Collection that was held this month in 2003, forward to today's auction of Parts 20 & 21 of the series, it's easy to see that this has been the single most valuable and numismatically important collection of American coins and medals and currency even put together by one collector. We now come to the end of the series, Parts 20 and 21 of John's collection. Part 20 includes his western tokens, and portions of his western ephemera. Part 21 is devoted solely to the sale of his western territorial ingots and assay bars.

We hope you join us on Tuesday, October 16th in New York City for the conclusion to this most important numismatic collection. Part 20 will start at 5:00pm EDT, in the Estrela Penthouse on the top floor of Le Parker Meridian Hotel with Part 21 to follow immediately after. If you cannot attend the sale in person please have fax and mail bids to us by NOON, EDT on Tuesday October 16th. Pre-registration for live internet bidding is required by Monday, October 15th.

The 72nd Anniversary Sale

It was back in 1935 that the founders of our firm, Joseph B. and Morton Stack, held their first auction sale. The world has changed since then, and so has the numismatic community. Today, Stack's stands along as the only American numismatic firm from that era still active. And, active we are! Not a month passes without us having a public auction sale, a Coin Galleries mail bid and internet sale, or other showcasing of interesting coins, tokens, medals, and paper money. Sometimes, as in October 2007, we have enough events in a single month to last a season.

Our 72nd Anniversary Sale features classic American rarities, highlighted by the incredibly important and rare 1894-S dime, a branch mint Proof that has been off the market for a generation. Interestingly, there have been many more opportunities over the years to purchase an example of the 1804 silver dollar, called "King of American Coins," than there have ebeen for the 1894-S dimes. The present piece is a treasure. Keeping it good company is another classic, the 1876-CC twenty cent piece, a lovely Mint State coin, the key to that series. This prompts mention of one of the largest and most extensive offering of Liberty Seated coins ever to cross the auction block--ranging from half dimes to silver dollars, and including the great rarities, among which are Gobrecht, 1851 and 1852, and the landmark 1870-S dollars.

Territorial and Private gold coins range from rare but collectible, to virtually unobtainable, the last category including a recently discovered, undated J.H. Bowie pattern for a gold dollar and a wonderful Proof 1855 Kellogg $50. An 1849 Oregon $5, Mormon issues, and the historically famous 1860 Clark, Gruber and Co. $10 add to a memorable offering. Coins of the 18th century include the classic 1792 Washington Roman Head cent, a lovely 1794 silver dollar, and many other issues.

Session One will begin at approximately 7:15, immediately upon the conclusion of our sale of The John J. Ford, Jr. Collection, Parts XX and XXI, which will begin at 5:00pm sharp in the Estrela Penthouse at Le Parker Meridian hotel in New York City. Lot Viewing is available Tuesday from 10:30-4:30 at our offices across the street at 123 West 57th Street. Session Two will resume at 5:00pm on Wednesday, October 17th also in the Estrela Penthouse.

Please attend the sale in person if you can. Be part of numismatic history as it is made! Otherwise, plan to bid by mail, on our website, by telephone (by special pre-arrangement), or in real time as the sale takes place on the Internet. Many items will be once in a lifetime opportunities, so bid accordingly!
