The San Francisco mint (which opened in 1854) is our oldest branch mint in continuous operation, and has issued a virtually complete silver and gold type set since the mid 19th century and copper and nickel since the early 20th century. Some of the keys to his impressive set include the No Motto Arrows Quarters and Halves, the Seated Dollars, the Type II $1 Gold piece and of course the elusive $3 gold piece. While now the mint serves as the source for our modern Proof issues, its long and distinguished history presents a numismatic panorama unequalled by any of the other branch mints.
