David Hall: The 1938 Oregons were struck at the Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco Mints and for the first time the Oregon issues were sold as a set of three coins. The initial price for the set of the three 1938 Oregons was $6.25. All three Mints struck about 6000 coins each and most were sold in the year of issue.
Most surviving 1938 Oregons are Mint State with the average grade being MS64 to MS66. The 1938, though not rare at all, is the most difficult of the three to find in Superb MS66 and MS67 condition. The typical 1938 Oregon is extremely well struck and has very clean, mark-free surfaces. Luster is more satiny than frosty.
