Expert Comments

Ron Guth: The mintage of the 1898 Liberty Head Nickel dropped to just over 12 million pieces, a significant decline from the previous year, but still a plentiful mintage for the series.  Thus, Mint State examples are easy to obtain, even in Gem condition.  The finest example is a solitary PCGS MS67.

Most 1898 Nickels feature a full strike, but occasional example will have a few weak stars.
