Expert Comments

David Akers (1975/88): The mintage of the 1824/1 is the second lowest of the five dates of this type, and yet the auction data indicates that it is the most common date of this type. However, I must admit that I have seen more of the 1825 than I have of any other. Most specimens are softly struck on the head of Liberty and have a very distinct overdate. Choice uncirculated specimens are very rare.
