David Hall: The 1938-S is a low mintage issue that, like the 1938-D and 1938-S, is quite a bit rarer than the 1934 to 1937 Texas commemorative issues. But all Texas commems were saved at the time of issue, so this issue can be found in Superb Gem condition fairly easily. Strike can occasionally be a problem with this issue, as often happens with San Francisco Mint issues of all U.S. coins of this era. Luster is usually frosty, but can occassionally be satin-like.
