Owner's Comments

O.102 R1. XXX Orange red toning through peripheral lettering and devices with carwheel luster. "An important Guide Book or Overton variety in the perfect high collector grade, this appealing 1809 half dollar is toned with iridescent hues of greenish-gold and displays ample luster in the fields. The strike is reasonably sharp, especially for this date and mint. The surfaces show little more than stray hairlines from brief handling. From a New England Museum," per cataloger. No reverse die crack. Faint obv die crack does not extend to stars. Obtained from Stacks Bowers Auction on may 9, 2013, Lot 333.
