Ron Guth:  The 1938-D Jefferson Nickel is considered a semi-key date because of its low mintage. Nonetheless, high grade examples bound, and even Gem examples are plentiful.  Superb (MS67) examples are scarce, but over 200 of them have been certified by PCGS.  This is one of the few dates in the pre-1965 era where MS68 examples exist.
