Ron Guth:  The 1939-D Nickel is a scarce date with Full Steps, no matter which reverse is considered (both the Reverse of 1938 and the Reverse of 1940 are of approximately equal rarity).  This is a very popular date because of its low mintage, and demand is high for well-struck, high-grade examples.  At the top of the Condition Census for this variety are three PCGS MS67FS's.

Diameter: 21.20 millimeters Designer: Felix Schlag Edge: Plain
Mintage: 3,514,000 Weight: 5.00 grams Metal Content: 75% Copper, 25% Nickel
