Vam 14-11

Expert Comments

Ron Guth: The 1878 VAM 14.11 is a very rare Top 100 variety, known as the "Wild Eye" or "Doubled Eyelid" variety because of smpikes that extend out of Liberty's eye.  This obverse die was only used on this variety so it is diagnostic; the reverse was used on several other varieties.  Less than twenty examples are known to exist as of April 2011.  PCGS has certified nine examples, the finest of which is an amazing MS-67 (a full three points finer than the next best example).  PCGS has not yet graded any PL or DMPL examples.
