David Akers (1975/88): Despite its low mintage, which would tend to imply a certain degree of rarity, the 1901 is really a very common date. It is comparable in overall rarity to the 1895, 1899-S and 1899. Most known 1901's are uncirculated but, of course, the majority of them are no better than Unc-60. Nevertheless, many choice and gem specimens exist.
