The diversity of U.S. Colonial coins and tokens is readily apparent in this eclectic mix of pre-1776 issues. There are pigs, deer, and pachyderms alongside kings and politicians, not to mention ships and buildings and stars. Many of the coins in this set were tokens, with no intended value, but because of the great need for money in the colonies, they were given monetary value and circulated along with more conventional coins. Of the 10 coins in this set, most are rare to extremely rare. Only two examples are known of the Gloucester Token, the Higley copper coins are seldom seen, and the "Hogge" Money from the Sommer Islands is elusive. On the other hand, the Rosa Americana and Woods Hibernia types are relatively common and affordable, and who couldn’t help but love the fascinating Elephant Token?
