These great coins have it all – an extremely significant and popular Revolutionary War date, designs based on themes from Benjamin Franklin, large size, and official authority from the Continental Congress. These may have been patterns for the first national silver dollar, but the majority of the survivors are in pewter. The off-metal versions in Brass and Silver are extremely rare. Interesting varieties include differences in spelling (CURENCY, CURRENCY, and CURRENCEY. To top it off, one extremely rare variety has a curious ornament to the right of the date. Colonial coins just don’t get any better than these!
