One of the dreams and rights of every nation is to have its own coinage. Several times during the history of our country, attempts were made to create a national coinage – to promote unity and to replace the odd assortment of foreign, private, and state coins in circulation at the time. In 1776, a Continental "Dollar" was proposed, but failed. In 1785, IMMUNE COLUMBIA pieces were made in England with an eye towards landing a contract to provide coins to America. Finally, in 1787, the American Congress authorized a contractor to produce copper Fugio Cents. Had all three plans succeeded, they would have changed the face of American coinage in both a figurative and a literal sense. This set includes all three of these historic coins.
