The first production appeared in 1870 from this legendary Nevada Mint, today whose popularity among collectors is almost mind boggling. There are so many rarities from the Carson City Mint that even some of the type issues are difficult to locate. Dimes, twenty cents, quarters, half dollars, silver dollars, half eagles, eagles, and double eagles were struck at this Mint. The government sold millions of Carson City silver dollars in the 1970s after finding them among the vast Treasury holdings. Thus, the silver dollars are the easiest coins to obtain for this type set with high grade examples available at any large coin show or auction. The gold denominations are the most difficult to obtain in Mint State grades, as they are scarce and collectors love them. The twenty cent issue is also tough to find, as only one year is available for the type price (1875), as the 1876-CC twenty cent issue is one the legendary rarities of all of numismatics. This type set is one of the most popular among collectors because of the magical name – Carson City.
