This set has always been a favorite, but with some of the recent sales records it's obvious that collectors are taking it to an even higher level of appreciation. The year 2001 has already seen an 1886 (type two) in PCGS PR66RD sell for $57,500! It's not only the ultra-rare 1864-L that's a major challenge. Today, there are collectors vying for every date in the series with an ardor that is unprecedented. These are beautiful and historic coins with small mintages, relatively low survival rates and an inclination to become spotty and/or cloud up. Another great (and fun) challenge!
