This is a popular set for collectors with only the 1929 as a real key – it is often available in Mint State, in fact most of the examples seen are Uncirculated, but it carries a hefty price because of its overall rarity. The other dates 1908-1916 are the only other years in this set, as half eagles were not struck in the ensuing years, nor after 1929. Only the 1916, only struck in San Francisco, is difficult to locate in Mint State grades, although it is no longer as difficult as in the past with more examples showing up from hoards and in bullion shipments from Europe. The incuse design of the Indian half eagles and quarter eagles has made them very desirable for collectors, as no United States coins, before or since, have had incuse features.
