Commemorative gold coins disappeared from the numismatic scene in 1926 with the issuance of the Sesqui quarter eagle. It wasn't until nearly 60 years later that they reappeared with the $10 gold coins commemorating the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles. Most of the coins in this set are of the $5 denomination, and all of them are becoming more popular as coin collecting is being rediscovered as a great American pastime.
