In 1887, Queen Victoria of England celebrated the 50th year of her reign. The occasion was marked with a new design type featuring a small, more mature bust of the Queen complete with a crown atop her head. The design remained in place from 1887 until 1893 on most British gold and silver coins (but, curiously, was omitted from the copper coins) and on Australian Sovereigns and Half Sovereigns. This set is very easy to complete. The "toughest" coin (the 1887-S Australian Sovereign, is relatively easy to find and only slightly more expensive than the other dates in this set.
