The types listed in this set were based on the list in the United States Coinage, A Study by Type. In this book, award winning authors, Ron Guth and Jeff Garrett, used the following characteristics to determine type:
1.) A legally mandated change to the design on either side of a coin.
2.) A change to the design (on either side of a coin) that can be seen with the naked eye.
3.) A major change in the technological processes used to create coins.
This set requires the first year each type was minted. With many of the first year issues scarce, completion of this set is a challenge.
