The American Gold Eagle series began in 1986 and features the timeless design of Augustus Saint-Gaudens on the obverse, with a reverse design by Miley Busiek. Struck in four denominations in 22 karat (.917 pure) gold, they remain one of the world's most popular bullion issues. The smallest Gold Eagle is the 1/10 ounce piece, with a face value of $5. While the key to this set is the 1999-W made from unpolished Proof dies, quite a few of the earlier dates (1986-1996) are condition rarities in MS-70.
