About this set: At its peak, the Sunnywood Collection included over 150 specimens of the finest mint state, proof, pattern, variety and error coin shield nickels - surely one of the most extensive and highest quality collections of this series ever assembled. Most of this collection has been sold, and so the Sunnywood PCGS Registry sets are now retired to the "All-Time Finest" list. Shown here are just some of the PCGS-certified highlights from the Sunnywood Collection. You might wonder how a collection of this calibre could be lacking an 1880 in uncirculated condition. Most 1880 circulation strikes are prooflike, and were struck from the same dies as the 3200 proofs. We passed over a number of these in MS63 and higher, hoping to find a "no-questions" business strike with frosty MS luster. As of August 2003, the only two that we were aware of were the single NGC MS65 and the recently "made" PCGS MS66 coins, neither of which was available to us. Therefore, we are content to allow an AU58 represent the issue here, as the light circulation wear at least gives the coin some credibility as a business strike. We also note our amazement at the ever-climbing "pops" as more coins are "conserved" and submitted for upgrades. When the Sunnywood coins were acquired, most of the pops in these grades were well less than half of what they are today, which made completing the set a considerable challenge at the time. (Many were just 2/0 or 3/0 when purchased !!)
