About this set: I'm attempting to put a set of $1 gold in PCGS 65 or better from 1849 to 1878 only (no coins between 1879 to 1889). If PCGS has graded a coin at the highest level of 64 I will attempt to include it in my collection. I will not collect a coin below pcgs 64. $1 Gold is a very difficult series to complete! I'm focusing on the very best of each date and mintmark. I was lucky to be able to have purchased the 1854-S pcgs 65+ ex. Pittman from 10/97 Akers sale! It's a coin David Akers always told me if I ever got an opportunity to buy, to do so! It's original, great skin with a golden color and a full strike! David Akers had been my mentor on rare coins for the past thirty years. With David's passing, Doug Winter will assume the mentoring role. ADDENDUM! Don Kutz gave me the opportunity to obtain eight gold dollars from his 1880 to 1889 collection. Four are graded pcgs 68 or better! Four are graded pcgs 67 or 67+ With all CAC ' ed ! I couldn't refuse! Thank you Don for your generosity! I have one NGC coin in my date set of $1G, It is the 1855-D NGC 64+/CAC which is the finest known and it is the rarest in UNC in the entire $1G series as well as the rarest Dahlonega coin in the $1G series in UNC! In Doug Winters new third edition of Dallonega Gold the cover is my 1855-D $1G NGC 64+/CAC coin.

Steve has done it again! A set second to none! This will become the reference for all future sets. The 1$G series is harder to put together at this gem level this first appears. Just look at those pops! well done!
