This is the first small cent issued. In the opinion of most collectors it is also the most beautiful copper (or copper-nickel) coin ever struck. There are five pieces in circulation strike, but each one is a classic. There's the rare and ultra-popular 1856, the oh-so-tough-to-locate overdate of 1858/7, and the three "common dates." For the proofs, the collector will need the rare 1856, the 1857 and the Small and Large Letters 1858. A short set, yes, but one that's a tremendous challenge as well, especially in MS65 and PR65.
