Penny Wise, Pound Foolish...

About this set: I might be penny-wise and pound-foolish, but I love these Lincolns! I'm indebted to all the roll-savers and collectors who saved and then slabbed these mint-red beauties. I don't remember putting the likes of these in my Whitman folder as a child in the 70's! Now, I'm thrilled to see such pristine pieces. While searching in the Fall of 2006 through bags and bags of pennies for the fun of it, hoping to score face-value wheaties, I was impressed by the palette of rich red and gold tinted cents of the memorials. Even some of the zincolns had a nice glow. So then I wanted to see what the best, slabbed, mint-state red beauties looked like, and also get a sense of the differences in the MS grade points. I found some sales on the CU's BST and got started. How complete can this set become before the end of the Lincoln Cent's 100th anniversary in 2009? I'm aiming for 100%! Whatever the outcome, each coin is a treat by itself. Post-script, May 2010: Well, I got to the 50% complete mark for the date set by Lincoln's Bicentennial!
