About this set: It seems impossible to be a serious coin collector without having a serious interest in history as well. The two are inseparable. My family came out west in Conestoga wagons in the mid-1800s and have remained westerners ever since. Thus, despite the fact that I have built a complete U.S. Coin Type set, the coin collection that provides me with the greatest personal “connection” as well as never-ending historical interest, is my Carson City coin collection. With the exception of the three virtually uncollectable silver coins,* I have managed to acquire a date example of every Carson City silver coin except the 1871- CC quarter (as of march 2009). I also have built a nice type selection of Carson City gold coins. The coins in my Registry 10-piece Carson City type set are from my Rian’s Bequest collection.

My avid participation in the Carson City Coin Collectors of America club and the relationship I enjoy with my Carson City coin mentor, Rusty Goe from Southgate Coins, have resulted in a premium quality coin set built with patience and knowledge-based selectivity.

I hope you enjoy this short tour through my Rian’s Bequest 10-piece “CC” type set.

If Carson City coins intrigue you at all, you owe it to yourself to pony up the $30 annual fee for a membership in the C4OA. The club’s award-winning journal, Curry’s Chronicle, is jammed with Carson City coin-related information contributed by its members (over 490 sign-ups and counting) as well as important Carson City coin-related studies written by the club’s select group of world-class numismatists.

Curry’s Chronicle offers priceless insights to anyone interested in Carson City coins, and believe it or not, the journal is free to our club members and it’s not available anywhere else.

You can find out more about the club at carsoncitycoinclub.com, or by writing the club’s membership secretary at CCCCOA, P.O. Box 18040, Reno, NV 89511.

* The 1873-CC No Arrows dime, the 1873-CC No Arrows quarter, and the somewhat less rare but fantastically expensive, 1876-CC 20c piece.

Liberty Seated Dime46691874-CC10CAU5513The “Flagship coin” of my Carson City collection. This exquisitely original coin recently arrived from Europe and is new to the U.S. coin census. It is easily in the top four on the condition census scale and it is the second rarest regular issue dime in U.S. history (1873-CC Without Arrows ranks first). Bought from Rusty Goe at Southgate Coins.

Liberty Seated Dollar69641870-CC$1AU504192Mauve colored toning and ample reflectivity accent the excellent strike and the sharp device details on both the obverse and reverse. A few light hairlines and a couple of tiny abrasions don’t detract at all. Bought from Rusty Goe at Southgate Coins.
