$10 Andrew Jackson Spouse Coins Released August 28, 2008

Jaime Hernandez - September 3, 2008

On August 28, 2008 at 12 noon eastern time the $10 Andrew Jackson Spouse coins were released by the United States Mint. The Andrew Jackson Spouse coin is the seventh coin which has been released by the U.S. Mint in conjunction with the Presidential Dollar Program.

Andrew Jackson became the 7th President of the United States of America as a widower. Therefore, current law mandates that Spouse coins of presidents who were serving a United States presidential term as widowers, should depict a representation of Liberty on the obverse. As a result, the obverse of the coin will also bear a depiction of Miss Liberty in a Capped Bust format, the same design used on Bust half dollars from 1807-1836.

The uncirculated Andrew Jackson Spouse coins will be offered to the public at a price of $599.95 each. The proof coins will be offered at $619.95 each. Each coin is composed of a half ounce of pure 24kt gold and each coin contains a $10 denomination on the obverse of the coin. The maximum authorized production limit is set at 40,000 coins for both the mint state and proof versions combined. The U.S. Mint will implement a 10-coin maximum ordering limit on the first week of the release date. Additionally, the U.S. Mint will also offer an Andrew Jackson Spouse coin medal. Customers who wish to purchase the coins or medals can contact the U.S. Mint at www.USMint.com or by calling the U.S. Mint at 1-800-USA-MINT.
