The 2009 Formative Years Lincoln cents were officially released on May 14th at Lincoln State Park located in Lincoln City, Indiana.

Approximately 3,000 people attended the ceremony. Anxious collectors ready to purchase these coins formed lines over a half-mile long. Collectors showed up seven hours before the first coins were even exchanged. Each person was allowed to exchange $3.00 worth of coins or six rolls each.

All Formative Years Lincoln cents exchanged in Indianapolis were from the Philadelphia Mint. 20,000 rolls, all reserved for the ceremony, were delivered by Brinks armored trucks. One million cents were exchanged with the public within the short time span of only four hours. Representatives were also handing out informative brochures describing Lincoln's boyhood home in Indiana as special keepsake of this historic event.

Customers who wish to order the rolls may do so by visiting the U.S. Mint website. The price for a set of "P" and "D" mint mark coins is $8.95.
