  • British Royal Mint to Issue First Bullion Sovereign and Half Sovereign since 1982

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. - Collectors Universe (Nasdaq: CLCT) announced it has been selected by the British Royal Mint as the exclusive distributor of the first 10,000 gold Sovereign and Half Sovereign Millennium Commemoratives. The British Royal Mint is marking the year 2000 with extraordinary Sovereign and Half Sovereign Millennium Commemoratives, the first bullion Sovereign and Half Sovereign coins struck since 1982. Mintage will be limited to only 250,000 of each.

The first 20,000 of these historic gold coins will be specially designated and shipped directly to the United States for distribution by two well-known California numismatics companies, Collectors Universe of Newport Beach and Ronald J. Gillio, Inc. of Santa Barbara.

Each of the first 10,000 Sovereigns and 10,000 Half Sovereigns struck will be accompanied by a certificate of authenticity indicating it was among the first coins produced. All of the first 20,000 coins will be encapsulated by Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS), the world's largest third-party numismatic authentication and certification company. These Year 2000 Millennium Commemorative Sovereigns and Half Sovereigns will be marketed exclusively through Collectors Universe and its Internet site www.Collectors.com.

Furthermore, the certificates for the first 100 Sovereigns and Half Sovereigns will be individually numbered, 1 to 100, to distinguish the actual order in which the Royal Mint struck the coin. PCGS will authenticate the first 100 Sovereigns and Half Sovereigns using its PSA/DNA authentication method.
