Legend Announces Acquisition of the #1 All-Time Finest Set of MS Seated Dollars

Lincroft, NJ - Legend Numismatics is proud to announce that the all-time finest set of MS Seated Dollars is back home. This spectacular set was sold privately by Legend in 2008 for a sum in excess of $10 million dollars. At the time this represented the third most valuable coin deal ever brokered and the set has resided with the same owner since. John Albanese of CAC sold the set back to Legend but the purchase price of the collection in 2015 is undisclosed. Both transactions were facilitated by Laura Sperber of Legend Numismatics. Legend managing partner and world renowned collector Bruce Morelan will oversee the set as its guardian.

Started by Morelan back in 2005, this set consists of virtually every finest known Mint State Seated Dollar in existence. Highlights of the collection include:

  • $1 1841 PCGS MS65
  • $1 1848 PCGS MS66
  • $1 1849 PCGS MS67
  • $1 1859-S PCGS MS64+
  • $1 1870-S PCGS MS62, the finest known example
  • $1 1872-CC PCGS MS65
  • $1 1873-CC PCGS MS65

Morelan has already added four upgrades to the set, which are highlighted by a 1855 $1 PCGS MS64 and a 1859-S $1 PCGS MS64+. Even if money were no object, it would be next to impossible to replicate this collection.

The Legend Collection of Dollars is an amazing feat and now consists of the finest Bust Dollar Collection in history, which is highlighted by the world's most valuable rarity, the 1794 $1 PCGS SP66, which Legend paid over $10,000,000 for in 2013; and also includes the incredible 1803 $1 PCGS MS65 Green/Newman piece. The Legend Collection of Dollars not only contains the #1 MS Trade Dollar Collection, which consists of 14 out of 17 Pop 1's, but also a beautiful short set of gem Gobrecht Dollars. From time to time, these sets will be shared and displayed at major shows. In the meantime, the set can be viewed in the Collectors Showcase section of the PCGS Set Registry.
