In the introduction to a Kingswood catalogue I wrote the following:

"Welcome to the Amherst Sale conducted by Kingswood Galleries. In the pages to follow you will find many choice, rare, and desirable numismatic items. Colonials, state coins, half cents and large cents, two-cent and three-cent pieces, important silver coinage, gold coins, commemoratives, and other series are presented for your bidding consideration... Devotees of slabbed coins have the opportunity to compete for numerous coins certified by Hallmark, ANACS, PCGS, and NGC...

"While scarce coins and rarities always get a lot of attention, and deservedly so, the backbone of numismatics is composed of coins which are affordable to the average buyer. In the present sale there are numerous lots which will probably sell in the $50 to $500 range. Included in that span are many early colonial and state coins, half cents and large cents, and other pieces which even the most advanced numismatist will enjoy owning. I know this, for [all of us on the staff] have enjoyed cataloguing them. One of the nicest things about being a professional numismatist is the opportunity to `own,' if only briefly, the many fine coins and paper money notes that pass through our hands.

"Let me now say a few words about Kingswood Galleries. As any reader of Coin World, Numismatic News, the Coin Dealer Newsletter, and other periodicals knows well, it is an era of big money. Scarcely a week goes by without this coin or that one selling for $50,000, $100,000 or even $200,000, or without this auction or that bringing well into seven figures. We are active participants in the arena and in fact have had more than our share of auction price records and major collections. Along the way we have tried our best to maintain a close personal contact with our clients.

"Personal service is the prime objective of Kingswood Galleries. Chris Karstedt and the Kingswood team have enjoyed gathering the consignments offered herewith and produced in the catalogue. When the sale itself takes place, [our staff members] will personally enter the bids on your bid sheet or answer your questions for help with bidding via toll-free telephone.
