The 1968-S "No S" Proof Dime
When contemplating some of the most intriguing Modern U.S. coins, several of the No S Proof coins come in mind. In particular, the 1968-S Proof Dime -- the first date for the Roosevelt Dime Proofs without the "S" mint mark. Click here for more details.

F. Soro - The Discovery Collection - Silver, Gold & Platinum Eagles Complete Set (1986-present)
In the last eCollector, we put the spotlight on Gerry Fortin's classic Liberty Seated Dime collection. This week we go modern with Franco Soro's complete Eagle collection, winner of the 2006 PCGS Set Registry award for Best Modern Set and Best New Set. The Discovery Collection is significant in that it contains each and every mintmark of each and every denomination in the American Eagle series. Just at face value alone, this collection represents a considerable investment, but the quality of the set makes it even more valuable. The weighted GPA is 69.40, well above the #2 rated set, and very close to the Finest Possible Set Rating of 69.81. Franco is also ranked number one in many of the subsets of the complete Eagle set including the complete CS set and the Complete Proof Set. Click here to view.

We Need Writers
Many of the great set descriptions in the Registry were written by Bruce Amspacher, one of the foremost numismatic writers of our time, who sadly passed away earlier this year. Since then, many new set compositions have been added to the Registry. If you are working on a set that does not have a set description and would like to submit a brief set description, we would value your contribution! Here's an example of one of the great set descriptions Bruce wrote for the Barber Dimes Basic Set:

"The Barber dime series is one filled with legend and romance. There’s the image of little Hallie Daggett skipping down the street in to spend one of her 1894-S dimes her father gave her on a dish of ice cream. There’s the story of the national contest to find a new dime design, only to have the entrants dismissed as "wretched failures." There’s the surprising rarity of the key dates, and how many key dates there have proved to be in MS65 or better.

The 1894-S is collected with the proofs as well as the mint state coins, but 99+% of the collectors ignore it completely, as its prohibitive rarity makes it too expensive to collect. Key dates in MS65 or better are the 1892-S, 1893-S 1894-O, 1895-O, 1897-S, 1899-O, and at least half a dozen other dates!”

The Long Wait is Almost Over!
In early November we will be launching the new software for the PCGS Set Registry. This software has many great new features including inventory management, loading one coin in multiple sets, ease in loading images, and much more! We've been beta testing this new software and are now in the final stages prior to launch. If you are interested in being a beta tester, please email [email protected].
