Our Readers Ask

Question: If someone were to submit a bunch of MS70 or PR70DCAM for a crossover at any grade and the coins were found deserving of that grade, would PCGS put them into MS70 or PR70DCAM holders? I know there is a risk to the submitter because there is a high probability that the coins won't meet the high standard of PCGS, but if the coin is worthy, would it cross?

Answer: Yes, if the coins are worthy, we'll put them in MS- or PR-70 holders. The reason PCGS does not offer a crossover service at the 70 grade is that it is impossible to properly evaluate a coin through a layer of plastic. If we were to crack a potential candidate out of a competitor's holder and the coin subsequently failed to qualify as a 70... well, you can imagine the problems that would cause.

Announcements

Quarterly Collectors Club Grading Special
In early 2007, the Mint introduced a new series of Presidential Dollar coins which featured a re-introduction of edge lettering, something collectors hadn't seen on coins since 1933. So, to commemorate this event, PCGS will accept any lettered edge U.S. coin for this quarter's Collectors Club Special. Possibilities include (but are not limited to) the following:
  • Half Cents and Large Cents (1793-1795)
  • Half Dollars (1794-1836)
  • Silver Dollars (1794-1803)
  • Saint Gaudens Double Eagles (1907-1933... yes, we'd be thrilled to certify your 1933 Double Eagle)
  • George Washington and John Adams Presidential Dollars (plain edge errors excepted)

This offer is valid for all Collectors Club members.
