PCGS Set Registry SM Spotlight
Law Collection The Number One Finest Liberty Seated Half Dimes Collection, Circulation Strikes (1837-1873)
Date Set
Basic Set
Variety Set
Varieties and 1870-S
This set is a new addition to the Set Registry this year. It is already 100% complete with an average grade of 65.03, so its selection as a Best New Set is not surprising. To garner a Best Classic Set in its first year of competition indicates how impressive this collection is in numismatics. The Half Dime series has languished in the background of numismatics, but the Set Registry is changing attitudes. There are many tough issues for this series and the Law collection is exceptional.

Current Standings in the Half Dimes category as of 8/05/08:

  • United States Half Dimes Date Set, Circulation Strikes (1792-1873) - H/D Collector-1792-1873 Date Set
  • Early Half Dimes Basic Set, Circulation Strikes (1792-1837) - Jim's half dimes
  • Early Half Dimes with Varieties, Circulation Strikes (1792-1837) - Jim's half dimes
  • Capped Bust Half Dimes Basic Set, Circulation Strikes (1829-1837) - The Law Collection of Capped Bust Half Dimes
  • Capped Bust Half Dimes with Varieties, Circulation Strikes (1829-1837) - The Law Collection of Capped Bust Half Dimes

Our Readers Ask

Is there such thing as a "Small S" and a "Large S" 1928-S Lincoln cent, and will PCGS recognize both of them?

Answer:
Yes, there are indeed two different varieties for this date. The "Large S" Lincoln cent seems to be really scarce compared to the "Small S" variety. PCGS will recognize the 1928-S Lincoln cent with a "Large S" mint mark and list the appropriate Fivaz and Stanton designation on the PCGS label if submitted through the Variety Attribution Program. For the "Small S" variety, PCGS will not recognize it on the holder since it is the most prevalent variety.

Additionally, the PCGS Population Report will reflect the population figures for coins submitted under Variety Attribution. For a free preview click here. Once you are in the Lincoln cent series click on the plus (+) sign next to coin # 2591 or 2592 (1C 1928-S MSBN or RB) and the menu will drop down the most current population information for the 1928-S "Large S" Lincoln cent.
