"Cheerios" Sacagawea Dollar Found Without Enhanced Tail Feathers Design
As part of an effort in 1999 to promote the new Sacagawea dollars, General Mills scattered 5,500 specially packaged, 2000-dated Sacagawea dollars among 10 million boxes of Cheerios cereal. Five years later, it was discovered that the so-called "Cheerios" dollars were actually from a different reverse die type. Some experts consider these pattern coins; others have called them "Reverse of 1999." Click here for more details.
PCGS Set Registry(SM) Spotlight

Murphy's Sacagawea Complete Variety Set- The Number One Finest Sacagawea Dollars Complete Variety Set, Circulation Strikes (2000-present)

With the recent addition of the Sacagawea Complete Variety set to the Registry, it did not take this collector long to get to the top spot. The majority of this set contains a large number of "Top Pops" leaving very little room for improvement. Included in these “Top Pops” is the rare ‘Cheerios’ dollar. Most of this set is also imaged for all to view. With a weighted grade point average of 68.18, this set will be hard to beat as it gets close the finest possible of 68.36. This is definitely a set to keep an eye on. Click here to view. Congratulations!

Our Readers Ask
Question of the Week
Will PCGS recognize the Cheerios cent if it is inside the original Cheerios packaging?
Answer:
Yes. PCGS will recognize and attribute Cheerios cents if the coins are in the original and un-tampered packaging. In order to receive this designation, you may send the coin in under Variety Attribution and our graders will remove the coin from the packaging. Our graders will then assign the coin with a numerical grade and add the "Cheerios" designation on the PCGS holder insert.

To learn more about Variety Attribution and find out which varieties PCGS will recognize, visit our Variety Attribution Listings at www.pcgs.com/VarietyFAQ.htm.
