Registry Spotlight
Richard - Indian Cents, Mint State (1859-1909)
The Number One Finest Set of All Time
With the exception of the copper-nickel coinage, Richard's set is 100% full Red, giving this
set the distinction of being the only completely full Red Indian Head set in the registry.
The key date, 1877, is MS65. The tough early dates, 1867-73, are all MS65 except for a
MS64 1871. This beautiful set is amazing yet Richard vows to improve upon it over time.

Collector's Survey
You have decided to build a superb quality set of Indian cents.
Price is not an object, so your only decisions involve strategy.
How would you go about it?
- A beautiful set in which every coin is a circulation strike in the finest possible grade in full Mint Red.
- A set of circulation strikes in the finest numerical grade
regardless of the color. For instance, you'd rather have an
MS67RB than an MS66RD.
- A gorgeous set of Proofs with every coin exhibiting full Red color in the highest possible grade.
- A magnificent set of Proofs with the highest possible grade regardless of the color. A Proof 67RB is chosen over a Proof 66RD.
- A mixture of Proofs and circulation strikes, going for the rarities (such as the 1864-L in Proof) and the condition rarities (such as the 1867 in MS66RD).

Our
Readers Ask
Question:
Have you ever seen a 1955 Doubled Die cent you would
describe as prooflike? I had just a phone call from someone who
claimed Harry Lessin had dozens of prooflike specimens in the
early 1960s. Your help is appreciated.
Answer:
These coins came with lustrous, frosty surfaces, never
with even a hint of prooflike character. The late Harry Lessin,
whose estate collection we handled a number of years back, was
one of the earliest people interested in this variety, and he
squirreled away quite a few of them-with great financial results!
