Collector's Survey
Several weeks ago we asked our readers to choose the most beautiful commemorative coin and the Oregon Trail won in a landslide. This week we'd love to hear from you regarding the most beautiful of the 20th century regular issue non-gold coins.
- The Buffalo nickel. The magnificent Indian portrait paired with the noble bison.
- The Mercury dime. That's Mrs. Wallace Stevens on the obverse representing Winged Liberty. No wonder we call it the "Mercury" dime instead!
- The "type one" Standing Liberty quarter. Controversial, yes, but definitely a strong contender in this contest.
- The Walking Liberty half dollar. Was A. A. Weinman a genius of design, or what?
- The 1921 Peace dollar. A sharply struck gem with the "High Relief" details...magnificent!

Results from last survey: 29% answered that the number one gold Commemorative set in the set registry would be the most desirable gold commemorative(s) to own. Click here for a complete breakdown.

Our
Readers Ask
Question: What is a "store card"? I've seen this term but can't learn what it means.
Answer: This term generally refers to a metallic token, such as a Civil War token or a Hard Times token, bearing the name of a specific merchant, store, tradesman, or business.
Thus, an 1844 copper cent-sized token bearing the name of J. Cochran, bellfounder, of Batavia, New York, is considered to be a store card. Somewhat related are "patriotic" and "political" tokens, usually with motifs relating to political figures, issues, or sentiments.
