The PCGS Coin Numbering System lists the coin numbers for each and every type of coin that PCGS grades. Each coin number identifies the type of coin by date, denomination, variety (if any), and designation. Listing the coin number on your invoice for each coin submitted helps us to quickly process your order. Instead of inputting the date and denomination of each coin received, the coin number is easily recognized by our computer system. If you would like to receive the PCGS Coin Numbering System on diskette, please contact our customer service department at 800-447-8848 for further details.

The coin numbers are directly linked to the PCGS Population ReportSM, a census listing of more than ten million coins which have been certified by PCGS. Call us at 800-447-8848 to subscribe to this valuable report or you can go to our website to signup for online subscription or purchase a hard copy.

The coin number, date, denomination, variety and designation columns on the PCGS Submission form correspond directly to the coin numbering system. Copy the information on to the invoice EXACTLY as it appears in the coin numbering system. Do not make up your own variety, etc. Judd numbers are currently included in the PCGS Coin Numbering System. PCGS requests that you indicate the Judd number in the variety column of the invoice.

Important Note:

Do not use coin numbers which do not appear in the PCGS Coin Number Lookup or in the PCGS Coin Numbering System book or diskette. If you are using the diskette or book copy, you should use the most current edition.

The current edition includes coin numbers for Canadian coins, however, it does not include coin numbers for other foreign issues. You may leave the PCGS coin number column blank for other foreign issues.

Please follow the stadardized submission procedures for all coins with special designations (copper, mercury dimes, and Morgan dollars). Specifically, you should:

  1. Submit all Mercury dimes with MSFB number.
  2. Submit al Copper (except Lincoln cents) with RB number.
  3. Submit all Lincoln cents with RD number.
  4. Submit all Morgan dollars with NON-PL number.
  5. Submit all Standing Liberty 25 cents with NON-FH number.
  6. Submit all Cameos with NON-CAMEO number.
You only need to designate "MS" (Mint State) or "PR" (Proof) on U.S. coins. Yet how you designate the coin will not affect how the coin is graded. PCGS graders will determine finer distinctions when they grade your coins.
