Ron Guth: The 1943-S Jefferson Nickel is part of the series of War-time Silver Nickels that ran from mid-1942 to 1945. The Mint struck over 100 million pieces, many of which were saved in Uncirculated condition by collectors and accumulators. PCGS has graded thousands of Mint State examples, mostly in MS66. Likewise, 1943-S Nickels with Full Steps are fairly common, but still remain roughly 2-3 times as rare as non-Full Steps (at least among those that have been certified so far). None have been graded finer than MS67 by PCGS.
