David Hall: Because of its low mintage, third lowest of the 1941 to 1964 Washington quarters, the 1947-S was saved by collectors/speculators in the year of issue and thereafter. Because many uncirculated rolls were saved, Gem examples of this date are among the most common in the Washington quarter series.
