David Hall: All of the 1919 issues are rare in circulated grades and very rare in high grades. The 1919 Philadelphia Walking Liberty half dollar is the second rarest Philadelphia Mint Walker, only the very low mintage 1921 is rarer. In Gem condition, the 1919 is very rare, but there some examples available from time to time, including a small number of Superb Gem MS66s and a small handful of MS67s.
The typical 1919 Walker is very well struck for an early date Walker. I cannot recall seeing a mint state example that didn't have a sharp head and hand. Luster can be frosty or semi-satiny. Apparently a small number were saved as there are some white frosty Gems known.
