Estimated grade. Sold in Stack's Auction of Garrett / Hopkins University, Mar. 1976
In Proof condition, the 1868 Silver Dollar is a plentiful coin despite its small mintage of only 600 pieces. PCGS alone has certified over half the original mintage, though the actual number graded is probably less because of resubmissions. The vast majority of 1868 Silver Dollars are brilliant Proofs. Only fifteen percent have earned the Cameo designation and less than four percent are Deep Cameos. Collectors are more likely to encounter a PR64 1868 Dollar than any other grade. Gems are scarce, and anything PR66 or better is considered a great rarity. The two best examples are a single PCGS PR67DCAM and an NGC PR67*UCAM. The price record for this date is a whopping $92,000, earned by the single PCGS PR67DCAM in a 2006 Heritage auction.
