David Akers (1975/88): The mintage of the 1880-CC is nearly triple that of the 1879-CC but in the 337 catalogues in my auction survey, the 1880-CC was offered with almost the same frequency as the 1879-CC. In my opinion, the 1880-CC is a bit more common than the 1879-CC but certainly not nearly as much as one might expect from the wide difference in the mintages. Most known examples of the 1880-CC are well worn and specimens above EF are rare. Mint state pieces are very rare and I have seen only a few.
