2011 is a unique year in the world of Silver Eagles, the 25th Anniversary for the Circulation Strikes, offering collectors a number of different choices. As normal, the West Point Mint struck the 2011 issue with and without a mintmark. Then in May, 2011, the San Francisco Mint began issuing Silver Eagles for the first time since 2000. The first release of the San Francisco minted coins do not have mintmarks and are identical to the West Point non-mintmark issues. However, if PCGS receives these coins in the original packaging from the Mint, the holder will designate where the coins were struck. The Proof Silver Eagles come from West Point with the W mintmark, as is typical. In November, the "official" 25th Anniversary set was released by the Mint. This set included two additional coins with mintmarks: the 2011-S in Circulation Strike and the 2011-P Reverse Proof. Finally, to add to these, all coins can have the "First Strike" designation.
