The diminutive Half Dime, was both the nation's first as well as its smallest silver coin. Due to its small size, the humble half dime has never enjoyed the popularity with collectors as the larger silver coins, but the history represented by this denomination is most impressive. Some today consider the 1792 Half Disme to represent the birth of U.S. circulating coinage, and along with the extremely rare 1802, will be the most difficult and expensive of the Mint State Pieces to acquire. In the Proofs, all of the pre-1854 issues will be very tough. In particular the 1838-40 No Drapery issues in Proof are all but unknown with only 4 pieces graded by PCGS of all dates. While completing this set will be quite difficult, assembling a collection of these early silver pieces will prove a most rewarding endeavor.
