Liberty Head $5 Gold Basic Set, Circulation Strikes and Proof (1839-1908)

There is no other set of circulation strike coins that features specimens from seven U. S. Mints—Philadelphia, Charlotte, Dahlonega, Carson City, Denver, New Orleans and San Francisco. This long-lived set includes one of the greatest rarities in numismatics, the 1854-S $5 gold piece. How many has PCGS graded? Zero! As with the early $5 proof gold, the proof Liberties are rare in this series. The mintages of the coins are incredibly low, such as five for one date and three for another! While not as rare as the pre-1859 issues, the $5 Liberty Proofs of 1859-1907 still make a tremendous collection that has rarely been completed. To collect all the circulation strikes and proof issues is a long and challenging collection to complete, but it’s a tremendous achievement if you can do it.
