The 1895 Mint set includes several tough coins. At the top of the list are the two Morgan Dollars. Philadelphia did not strike any for circulation this year, and New Orleans and San Francisco struck fewer than 1 million coins between them. In high grade, both of these issues are tough, but the 95-O particularly so. And on the subject of 1895 coins struck in New Orleans, the humble dime will also prove to be a hurdle. With fewer than half a million struck, it is the key date in the Barber dime series and a four figure coin even in mid-circulated grades. While none of the gold coins are major rarities, most of them are tough in higher grades. In fact, the 1895-O is unknown above MS63.
