The 1840 Copper and Silver Mint Set is a large one, containing both "No Drapery" and "With Drapery" versions of the Half Dime, Dime and Quarter. With fourteen coin in all, it is one of the larger Registry Mint Sets of the period. Among the keys are the 1840-O Drapery Half Dime, and the 1840-O Drapery Dime in Mint State. The nine gold coins this year consist of the Quarter and Half Eagles, struck at all four operating mints, and an Eagle from Philadelphia only. Of particular scarcity are the 1840-D Quarter Eagle by virtue of a limited original mintage of only 3.532 pieces, and of course the "C" and "D" mint Half Eagles.
Notes: This set has bonuses. Please see the Set Composition for a listing.
