With no Half Cent or Quarter, the 1801 Copper and Silver Mint Set contains five coins: a Cent, Half Dime, Dime, Half Dollar and Dollar. Most are common dates for the type, but the Half Dollar is somewhat scarcer due to a low mintage of only about 30,000 pieces. All these early pieces will be quite scarce and costly in Mint State grades, but nice VF/XF pieces should be available at affordable prices. Only one gold coin was struck in 1801 – an Eagle. While it is one of the most common dates for the type, keep in mind that all early gold is scarce and desirable, and even a nice circulated example will run five-figures. High grade Mint State pieces go into six figures.
