The Proof Set for 1892 marked the debut of the new silver coins by Charles Barber. A dime, quarter and half showing a laureled head of Liberty facing right replaced Christian Gobrecht's Liberty Seated design which had dominated the circulating silver coinage since the late 1830s. Being the first of a new design, demand was apparently quite high as some 1,245 pieces were struck making this a readily obtainable date.
